Michael Nimmo, Esq.
Michael Nimmo, Esq.
Michael Nimmo is a practicing trial lawyer representing sexual abuse survivors throughout the country. Michael recently transitioned from his law firm of 20 years, Denver Trial Lawyers, and is now Senior Counsel to Wagstaff Law Firm in Denver, Colorado, where he represents many survivors nationwide.
Michael was born and raised in small town Oklahoma, is part Native American, and a member of the Chickasaw Nation. Michael moved to Colorado initially for his love of the mountains and outdoor life, then married a Denver girl and has three beautiful daughters.
Michael wanted to become a lawyer to help people and to follow in his dad’s footsteps, who was a practicing lawyer and a Judge in Oklahoma. Michael is proud to represent survivors and to help those who deserve to be heard and to help them hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions.
Over his legal career, Michael has been involved in numerous committees, boards, and other commitments to help change the law, educate the public and attorneys, and make a positive impact on society. Michael has served as the New Lawyer Committee chair of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, Executive Committee member, Legislative Committee member, Board of Directors, and was elected as an officer of the organization where he served as President. Since serving as President, Michael has become active in AAJ and was recently elected as the co-chair of the Child Sexual Abuse Litigation Committee at AAJ
In addition to advocating for his clients in the court room, Michael has a passion for changing the laws to help survivors. Michael has been an integral part of changing sexual abuse laws in Colorado and in 2021, Michael took lead on drafting a bill, negotiating with leadership, testifying in front of committees, and lobbying parties and legislators on a bill that was passed by the Colorado Legislature and signed by the Governor. The law was titled the Child Sex Abuse Accountability Act, which opened up claims for survivors of abuse that occurred many years ago and for claims moving forward. Michael worked closely with non-profit advocacy groups to lobby the bill and negotiated directly with the Governors Chief of Staff. During that process Michael worked closely with Child USA, and found their support to be invaluable, which was the catalyst for Michael’s interest in being involved with and helping Child USA. Michael has also had the privilege and opportunity to work on numerous other pieces of legislation, which has included drafting, lobbying, and testifying before the legislative body in Colorado and elsewhere.
